Chapters 6, 7, and 8: Partner Reading

As you read chapters 6, 7, and 8, you will use the dictionaries (located on the bookshelf) to define the vocabulary words with your partner. You may also answer the comprehension questions with your partner, as well.

Chapter 6:
*cultural
*foreign

1. The teacher explained to the students what a mime is. What is a mime?
2. What did Lucas do to cause so much excitement during the show?
3. Did Mrs. Hockaday assign homework to Lucas for his behavior? What was his punishment?
4. Who came to Lucas' defense about the homework? Did it work?

Chapter 7:

1. How has Lucas' behavior in class changed? Give an example.
2. How did Lucas feel when he wrote Arthur's get well card?
3. Why do you think the author titled this chapter "A Class Circus for a Class Clown"?

Chapter 8:

1. What did Mrs. Hockaday give students as she announced their names for the end-of-year awards?
2. For what did Lucas receive an award?
3. Do you think he deserved an award? Explain your answer.
4. What do you think is the lesson the author wanted us to learn from this book?

  1. We are working on Theme at our school. My students said that the theme of this book was that it was never to late to become a good student/person. Does anyone have any other ideas for a theme?
